Snell Expands 'Kahunaverse'

April 13, 2010

The amalgamation of Snell and Wilcox and Pro-Bel into Snell is now in its second year and the new company has been busy developing new products to meet the growing demands of the broadcast industry.

One of these product categories is 3D video. “Undoubtedly 3D is happening — people are deploying real projects; major corporations are announcing significant investment development in this area,” said Snell Chief Marketing Officer Neil Maycock in a Sunday morning press conference. “It’s not a question of if anymore; it’s a question of how much, how soon.”

Maycock said that Snell is all set for 3D, with its Kahuna production switcher now accommodating stereo camera feeds on a single M/E bus, and providing internal 3D signal calibration capability.

“It’s the first production switcher in the world to really, truly embrace 3D and integrate features inside the product,” Maycock said.

Snell also has a totally new Kahuna, the 360. It accommodates all types of video, provides 12 M/E buses and supports switching of as many as 16 programs.

3D accomplishments extend into Snell’s Alchemist Ph.C standards conversion product, with perfectly matched processing for both image channels, and the latest model supporting 1080p.

Maycock also announced new developments in Snell’s IQ Modular platform and Morpheus automation.
