Panasonic Shows Practical 3D Production Tools
April 13, 2010
3D was a favorite topic at Sunday’s
Panasonic press conference, which included
a screening of material captured with the
AG-3DA1 HD 3D camcorder and projected
on a 152-inch Panasonic plasma display.
Joe Taylor, chairman and CEO of
Panasonic Corp. of North America, reviewed
the range of products designed to bring 3D
assets “from the camera to the couch.”
Discussing the company’s partnership
in three soon-to-launch 3D channels with
DirecTV, Taylor acknowledged that the
driving force for 3D distribution is, of course,
3D content and programming. To that end,
he announced that AEG/AEG Digital Media
is constructing a 3D-production studio in
the L.A. Live complex in Los Angeles,
equipped with Panasonic HD 3D solutions
and designed to encourage production of
more original content.
Addressing a concern frequently
mentioned with 3D — the psycho/physical
effects of 3D viewing
— Taylor noted that
Panasonic will be working
with the Entertainment
Technology Center to
create a standard of 3D
production guidelines to
guarantee a “comfortable,
safe, immersive viewing
experience.”
A number of new
products that are viewable
in Panasonic’s booth,
along with the AG-3DA1
HD 3D camcorder, were highlighted by Joe
Facchini, vice president of sales & product
management, Media & Production Services,
Panasonic Solutions Company, including
the AG-AF100 micro 4/3-inch video
AVCCAM HD camcorder, AG-HPX370
P2 HD camcorder, AG-MSU10 P2 media
storage unit and AJ-HPD2500 solid-state P2
HD recorder.
