“Mobile” is the operative word at Rohde
& Schwarz.
The German transmitter and test
equipment manufacturer is targeting mobile
television with its products, and announced
that all its transmitters are ATSC-M/H
(A/153) compliant.
“Rohde & Schwarz was the first to put
the A/153 standard on the air in Baltimore,
Md.,” said Walt Gumbert, transmitter sales
manager for North America.
That station, WNUV, went on air using
the new standard the first day it was legal
to do so. The project used a
variety of Rohde & Schwarz
products, including the
software-definable SX800
exciter and AEM100 emission
multiplexer. All transmission
products from R&S are now
compatible with the ATSCM/
H standard, including
the high-power NX8600
transmitter.
The commitment to mobile is also evident
in the Rohde & Schwarz’s test equipment.
“You will be able
to add ATSC-M/H test
capability to the ETL
in the next 12 months,”
Gumbert said. The R&S
ETL is growing in other
ways, including the
ability to test FM audio.
The ETL can now test
analog and digital
TV signals, as well as
analog and digital radio
signals.
Rohde & Schwarz
also announced an
ISDB-TB product line
to serve broadcasters in South America.
