Algolith Plays a Flexible Card

April 21, 2009

Algolith is showing Algogear, an advanced image processing card, designed for Algolith's openGear frame, which can add capabilities by simply adding downloadable software into the device's massive programmable chip.

The company figures broadcasters and anyone else needing to process images and synchronize frames will be attracted to the card's versatility — especially, say, a station still working through the transition to HDTV using a variety of new and legacy tools.

The company is stressing that adaptability in its philosophy of "One card, one price, more choices." Buyers of the card can add new applications at no cost.

Current conversion functions include a noise-reducing upconverter, tackling highly compressed feeds and re-injecting detail with a new detail enhancer — a great tool for bandwidth-challenged applications that still demand high-quality video.

Other functions include a profanity delay for live applications.
